KUALA LUMPUR - Police have confirmed that the bomb-like objects planted on lawyer and activist Siti Zabedah Kasim's car tyre are an improvised explosive device (IED).

Brickfields District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Amihizam Abdul Shukor said he received a report today at 12.38pm stating that there was a bomb-like object placed on the rear tyre of Siti Kasim's Toyota Celica.

As soon as he received the call, the police team cordoned off the area around the vehicle with the explosive after the bomb disposal unit (UPB) carried out an explosion test on the object placed at the lawyer's rear tyre.

"Inspection was carried out, and it was found that two plastic bottles placed on the rear tyre were believed to be IED-type bombs," he said when met by reporters at the scene of the incident in Jalan Maarof here on Friday.

He said further investigation will be carried out by the police to obtain more information about the explosives.

The IED, he said, was successfully removed from the vehicle and will be sent to forensic experts for detailed information on the bomb.

"Preliminary investigations on the victim revealed that she had gone to the location to service her car before starting her journey to Kelantan. She also claimed to have received threats before," he said.

Earlier, Siti Kasim uploaded live on her personal Facebook page, claiming that there was a bomb-like object placed on her car.
