Mahfuz: Sanusi shifting focus from his scandal by claiming big plot planted against him
ALOR SETAR - Kedah Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Mahfuz Omar has claimed that caretaker state Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor is now trying to shift attention by stating that there is a movement to tarnish his image.
He claimed that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) General Election Director was trying to divert the focus away from the court charges he now faces for allegedly insulting the Selangor Sultan.
"The way I see it, he is trying to divert the issue of being probed by the police. It has yet to be decided by the court, but he is in the wrong as he insulted the sultan.
"He did not only insult the sultan, but he also insulted Allah when he mocked the caretaker Selangor Mentri Besar (Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari) for not having 'enough inches' (for being short).
"Enough or not, it is Allah who created us," he told reporters in Alor Senjaya here on Friday.
On Wednesday, Sanusi stated that he did not rule out the possibility that the latest allegations related to malpractice and abuse of power in the issue of rare earth element (REE) mining are a big plot designed to tarnish his image ahead of the upcoming state elections.
The Pas leader claimed he only knew he was being probed regarding the REE mining activities in Bukit Enggang, Sik, through media reports.
Commenting further, Mahfuz urged the authorities to enforce the law regardless of the level of the individual, including the leaders who commit wrongdoings.
"We shouldn't let it pass; it would be very unfair if we couldn't argue or take action against someone who commits an offence just because they are influential. We can't offend people and later call it politics.
"If that's the case, just close down all police stations and courthouses. We will create a Taliban state," he said again.
