Bersih reiterates electoral do's and don'ts for upcoming state polls
SHAH ALAM - The coalition for clean and fair elections (Bersih) has once again reiterated the electoral do’s and don’ts in ensuring fair play between all parties that will be contesting in the imminent Aug 12 state polls.
Bersih chairman Thomass Fann said that any statements or allocations made to voters, such as the parties or candidates winning in the future election, should not be subject to any conditions.
"Any commitments made by the federal government should be fulfilled regardless of the outcome of the state elections," he said in a statement today.
He also said that no campaign can be carried out during official federal functions, including mentions of the approaching elections, party or candidate names, or the display of party flags or symbols.
"No allocations are to be made selectively for constituencies to help certain parties to wrest or retain such constituencies," he added.
Thomass also said that candidates should only be present in federal government functions if they are also federal ministers themselves, when special announcements or allocations were made.
He said that Bersih will be monitoring the upcoming state polls and will take action against any party or individual who violates the guidelines.
