Sanusi denies not answering phone calls which led to his arrest
SHAH ALAM - The caretaker Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor denies the claim made by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain that he was uncontactable, which resulted in his arrest at 2.30am in Mont Kiara yesterday.
Sanusi alleged that his arrest, which was made in the wee hours of the morning, was a conspiracy to portray him as a criminal, reported Utusan Malaysia on Wed.
"I don't want to be arrested because I know this conspiracy wants to arrest me because it could create a narrative that a mistake was made. "If I were arrested in front of people, 'they' would be even more thrilled. So I avoided the arrest by fully cooperating and assuring them that I would be present at the court.
"I was implicated in a mistake that doesn't exist and was fabricated. That's why the 3am arrest was made to project Sanusi as a bad person," he told reporters after attending the Kedah Maal Hijrah celebration here.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain was reported as saying that Sanusi's arrest was a result of the police's inability to contact the Pas leader prior to his court hearing on Tuesday.
Razarudin said that numerous calls had been made by the police to Sanusi and his political secretary, but to no avail.
Sanusi said he has WhatsApp screenshots of a conversation with a senior police officer who asked for the arrest not to be made as Sanusi has confirmed to be present at the court as scheduled.
"I want to correct the statement made by the IGP. With all due respect to Tan Sri, the media statement yesterday was incorrect.
"I had communication with the Bukit Aman officer from 10pm to 12.30am. There is WhatsApp evidence," he said.
Sanusi said that as a menteri besar and good citizen, he has no problem extending his cooperation to the police.
"I have never run away from all these things. Not even once. So it doesn't make sense as to why I was arrested.
"I have given my 100 per cent commitment that I will present at the Sessions Court at 9am sharp. No need to arrest me. Where am I going to run? I'm a Menteri Besar. The police officer still insisted that I come and give a statement. I said it was okay. I'm done; I want to sleep and rest," he added.
Sanusi also sent screenshots of the conversation to a senior police officer to be informed by the IGP.
However, Perikatan Nasional Election Director said that he understood the duties and responsibilities carried out by police officers as well as their level of professionalism displayed in the process.
