You could've called Sanusi's bodyguard, a policeman, Hamzah tells IGP
ROSKHOIRAH YAHYASHAH ALAM - Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin has raised concerns regarding the arrest of Kedah caretaker Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhamad Sanusi Md Nor by the police at 3am, questioning the reasons behind the controversial politician and his officers not answering their phones since Monday evening.
Hamzah found it peculiar that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, claimed they were unable to contact Sanusi despite him having a personal officer who was a police officer.
"If Sanusi had a police officer as his personal officer, isn't it strange that the police themselves couldn't contact him?
"This explanation doesn't make sense, considering that the police had a staff member assigned to the Menteri Besar's safety.
"They could have easily asked the officer directly about Sanusi's whereabouts," Hamzah expressed in a Facebook video uploaded yesterday.
During a press conference yesterday, Razarudin explained that Sanusi was arrested at 3am because he did not answer their calls when they tried to contact him since the previous evening to inform him of the charges against him.
In addition to the failure to reach Sanusi, the Kedah police were unable to locate him after the Federal Police sought the state police's assistance in recording conversations for the Sedition Act investigation conducted by the Federal Police Classified Criminal Investigation Unit (USJT).
Razarudin stated that the investigators had attempted to contact the Press-Secretary and Political-Secretary of Sanusi for the notification process, but received no response.
Sanusi was arrested at a hotel in Mont Kiara, Dutamas, at 3am on the previous day by a team of police personnel of the Federal Police Criminal Investigation Department.
To this, Hamzah has claimed that there was a hidden agenda to arrest Sanusi early in the morning in order to embarrass the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Election director.
"This arrest at 3am doesn't make any sense, considering that the Jeneri Assemblyman had cooperated and agreed to appear in court.
"I believe there is someone behind the scenes orchestrating this arrest to embarrass a key leader in PN," he stated.
Hamzah stressed that the abuse of power was unacceptable, especially among top leaders, and urged against its recurrence.
"I'm not making direct accusations, but given that this situation has occurred before, it is not beyond the realm of possibility for it to happen again," he said.
