SHAH ALAM - Former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has prayed for the Kedah caretaker Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, to gain justice following charges under the Sedition Act 1948 over a political speech on July 11.

The Pagoh MP said the public must remain calm and pray for Sanusi's safety in facing the matter.

"I sympathise with Sanusi, who was charged under the Sedition Act 1948.

"The government today is encouraging the use of legal instruments to pressure their political opponents.

"This goes against the promise of reform they voiced previously, including to abolish the act," he said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

On July 18, it was reported that Sanusi pleaded not guilty to two charges in the Selayang Sessions Court on two charges of incitement regarding the issue of the Selangor Menteri Besar's appointment and the unity government's establishment in a ceramah.

Muhyiddin commented further and informed that among the basis and principles of Perikatan Nasional's (PN) struggle is to uphold, preserve and defend the sovereignty and the recognition of the royal institutions as Constitutional Monarchs.

"The principles would continue to be defended," he said.
