Dr M appointed as NGO patron, principal advisor
SHAH ALAM - Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has officially consented to be appointed as the patron and principal advisor of the Pertubuhan Perdana Nasional (PPN).
The non-governmental organisation (NGO), in a statement, said Dr Mahathir agreed to accept the appointment on Feb 23, with its president Abdul Hakim Hafizi paying a courtesy visit at the Perdana Leadership Foundation, Putrajaya, yesterday (July 17), accompanied by PPN Supreme Council members.
"Abdul Hakim officially submitted the letter of appointment to Dr Mahathir as patron and principal advisor following Clause 14 of the PPN Constitution effective today (July 18)," the statement said.
"We wish to clarify that Dr Mahathir will assist us in efforts to improve PPN's image and role as an NGO that helps the community," it said on Tuesday.
It was further explained that Dr Mahathir's appointment is not part of a political agenda, and PPN is not affiliated with any political party.
