SHAH ALAM - The 3am arrest of caretaker Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has been met with criticism from several leaders from the unity government, who questioned the choice of the arrest timing.

PKR's Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin said that Sanusi's remarks indeed insulted the royals and divided the multi-racial community, and that he should be investigated and charged if there are substantial evidence.

However, Sim questioned the need for the 3am arrest, saying that it was "not a sensible action" and that the police's arrest standard operating procedure (SOP) should be reviewed.

"Arrests can be carried out early in the morning or in the evening. It should not be done in the middle of the night," he said.

Sim further reminds that Sanusi is a caretaker Menteri Besar and not a suspect who will abscond.

Muda secretary-general Amir Hariri Abd Hadi similarly questioned the need to make the arrest at 3am, writing on his Twitter account: "I also do not understand why the arrest needs to be made at 3am. Please have an explanation."

Sanusi was charged in two separate Sessions Courts in Shah Alam on the same day with two counts of sedition over his political talk last week. He claimed trial for the offences.
