Three rushed to hospital for wild mushroom poisoning
TANJUNG MALIM - Three family members were rushed to the Slim River Hospital on Wednesday after consuming poisonous mushrooms.
The victims, Masieta Saarani, 39, her husband Zulkifli Sabli, 42, and their six-year-old son, were all taken to the hospital after experiencing dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Masieta said that she thought the mushrooms her husband had collected near their home were termite mushrooms, which are a type of edible mushroom.
However, she later realised that they were poisonous mushrooms after her husband and son began to show symptoms of poisoning.
"My husband told me to throw away the mushrooms because he was worried that our other children would eat them after school.
"He ate the most and began to feel weak until he could not drive the car.
"I immediately called 999 to get help, and the three of us were rushed to the hospital.
"My son and I were allowed to leave the same day while my husband the next day," Masieta said
Masieta said that she was grateful that her family members were able to recover, and she warned others to be careful when collecting mushrooms in the wild.
"I didn't know that there were poisonous mushrooms that looked similar to the termite mushrooms.
"I just want to share my experience so that others don't make the same mistake," she said.
