SHAH ALAM - Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan has cast doubt on the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission's (MCMC) ability to control TikTok, after the commission denied claims that it had banned Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor's TikTok account.

"If the MCMC could control TikTok, the platform would not be a place to spread slander.

"Many TikTok accounts have spread slander against me, and the account owners could not be traced. Now you want to say that the government can control TikTok? Please," Syahredzan said in a tweet.

Sanusi claimed on Saturday that his TikTok account had been banned, and that he believed this was an attempt to block his online campaign efforts ahead of the upcoming state election.

He said that some of his friends had also had their TikTok accounts banned.

The MCMC has denied that it banned Sanusi's account, saying that it does not have the ability to do so.

The commission said that it is investigating the matter, but that it has not found any evidence that Sanusi's account was banned.
