Body of newborn baby boy found on rubbish pile

LAHAD DATU - The body of a newborn baby boy was found on top of a pile of rubbish in Fajar, here, yesterday.

The body which was wrapped in clothing was found at a garbage site at about 11.30pm.

Lahad Datu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Rohan Shah Ahmad said the baby’s body was found by a 44-year-old local man.

“The man who was a garbage truck driver was collecting garbage at the area when he discovered the body.

“The baby’s body was wrapped in a grey-coloured women’s shirt and placed on top of the pile of rubbish,” he said in a statement today.

Rohan said a team of officers from the Lahad Datu District Police Headquarters rushed to the scene to carry out investigations.

“The baby's body has been taken to the Lahad Datu Hospital forensics department for post-mortem.

“The case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealing the birth of a child and secretly disposing of the body which carries an imprisonment of up to two years or a fine or both, if convicted.
