UMSC marks its silver jubilee, saves over two mil lives

SHAH ALAM - UM Specialist Centre (UMSC) celebrates its 25th anniversary, marking the hospital’s initiative in treating over two million lives since its inception.

It also reiterated the organisation’s goal to become a regionally renowned referral centre.

UMSC chief executive officer Norzaiton Senusi said along the road of 25 years of excellence, they were glad to be part of the success stories of the Public-Private Partnership implementation in the country.

“Public-Private Partnership is essential in building a more resilient healthcare system in Malaysia, which creates a new era of enhanced access to high quality and service delivery through comprehensive healthcare,” she said in a press statement.

During the appreciation night held at St Regis on Friday, 21 pioneer doctors and strategic partners were recognised for their trust in UMSC’s expertise.

AllianzLife Insurance Malaysia, Prudential BSN Takaful Berhad and Etiqa Family Takaful Berhad brought bagged the ‘High Flyer Insurance’ awards, while Micare, Europ Assistance and PMCare had also been awarded the ACE TPA award.

The ceremony also saw the presence of Universiti Malaya (UM) Board of Directors chairman Tan Sri Zarinah Anwar and its Vice-Chancellor of Professor. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Mohd Hamdi Abd Shukor.

In a statement, UMSC said the 25 years of excellence signified the credibility entrusted to the centre, backed by well-renowned specialists and their expertise to serve the community for over two decades.

“UMSC’s remarkable milestones can be reflected in the recent industry recognitions which include the winning of Brand of The Year (Tertiary Medical Centre, Integrated Healthcare Support) for 2021/2022 Brand Laureate Awards.

UMSC provided excellent care since July 13, 1998, and was incorporated as a private limited company.

It was established as an initiative by UM and UM’s Medicine Faculty to allow academic clinicians to carry out private practice within the university's umbrella.

“UMSC is proud to house more than 270 consultants; among them are professor doctors. It is the first private university hospital that leverages medical experts from the public sector to provide a more competitive healthcare ecosystem,” the press statement read.

Over the years, UMSC’s doctors and the management brought in many improvements in managing the care of their patients.

UMSC had also collaborated with UM and Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) in 2015 on shared services for the first Centre for Image Guided and Minimally Therapy (CIGMIT) in the country, among others.

A recent poll showed the doctors’ medical knowledge account for more than 95 per cent of patient satisfaction.

This was reflected by UMSC’s renowned consultants that provide medical expertise in the multidisciplinary environment, continuously upskilling themselves through research and education, and the evidence-based approach in every clinical procedure.
