SHAH ALAM - Selangor state government has welcomed the decision by Tesla Inc. to open its headquarters, service center, and experience center in the state this year.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the decision resulted from a discussion between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Tesla CEO Elon Musk earlier today.

The meeting was also attended by Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz and Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

Amirudin said the state government is prepared to facilitate the entry of Tesla into Selangor and has identified sites in the Petaling district and Sepang for the company's operations.

"The district offices and relevant authorities are prepared to facilitate this investment entry," he said in a statement.

Amirudin said Tesla's presence in Selangor is a vote of confidence in the state's investment climate and will encourage other international companies to invest in the battery technology field.

"This investment will indirectly raise the demand for the youths to enter the special technology field in clean energy industries.

"This is not only important in the vehicle industry but also the usage of clean energy batteries in the public transport industry," he added.

Amirudin said the development is in line with the state government's intention of making Selangor the most efficient 5G facility state in Southeast Asia.

"This is one of the foundations to attract more investors domestically and internationally who offer higher paying job opportunities to the Selangor people in particular," he said.
