KUALA LUMPUR - The police have received a total of 31 reports nationwide involving the statement made by Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor allegedly insulting the Sultan of Selangor.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the police have opened investigation papers regarding the matter on Wednesday.

"As of 11am today (Friday), we have received 31 police reports.

"The investigation is being carried out by a special team from Bukit Aman that focuses on the 3R issues, namely religion, race, and the royal institution," he told Sinar Harian, today.

He added that Sanusi's statement has also been recorded by the police in the capital, today.

He said cases involving the 3R issues will be investigated under the Penal Code, the Sedition Act 1948, and the Communications and Multimedia Commission Act 1998.

Razarudin also emphasised that police will conduct investigations immediately if the cases were found to have involved 3R issues.

"The 3R issue is often being played with, especially when state elections are just around the corner.

"Any party, including non-governmental organisations (NGOs), politicians, or former politicians found attempting to play such issues will not escape legal action," he said.

Recently, a video of Sanusi's speech allegedly undermining the credibility of Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah for appointing Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari as Selangor Menteri Besar went viral on TikTok

In a response, Amirudin said Sanusi's behavior proved that the latter did not respect the royal institition, which was a symbol of unity in the country.

On Thursday, it was reported that besides Sanusi, the police were also investigating former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng and Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang in relation to the 3R issue.
