PKR to keep asset declaration tradition running

SHAH ALAM - Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is still carrying its tradition of requiring all their candidates contesting in the state polls on Aug 12 to declare their assets.

PKR communications director Lee Chean Chung said that the tradition aimed to uphold the principles of transparency and professionalism in politics.

He said that the move also intended to prove that the candidates featured by PKR had credibility, quality and could provide the best for the people.

"As informed by the deputy president Rafizi Ramli, PKR will continue the asset declaration procedure for candidates selected to contest in the six-state election next month. It is the same as what was required for candidates in the 15th General Election (GE15) last year.

"Apart from that, selected candidates must also sign a loyalty bond if they are elected as the people's representative," he told Sinar Premium.

On July 6, Rafizi who is also PKR electoral director, stressed that the party's candidates who were selected to contest in the state polls had to sign a loyalty bond as a representative of the people and declare their assets.

In the last 15th General Election (GE15), PKR required all candidates who contested under the party's ticket to make an asset declaration in accordance with the Statutory Declaration Act 1960.

Meanwhile, Lee said that the asset declaration initiative for candidates who contest the election gave the leverage to increase confidence among voters.

"When a candidate declares his assets, it means that there is nothing to hide from the voters, thereby increasing the confidence of the people," he said.
