GEORGETOWN - Penang Umno will contest six out of 40 seats in the State Legislative Assembly in the upcoming Penang state elections on August 12, said Penang Umno Liaison Body Chairman Datuk Musa Sheikh Fadzir.

He said the six seats are Permatang Berangan, Sungai Dua, Penaga, Bertam, Sungai Acheh, and Teluk Bahang.

Musa said that the party is currently in the process of selecting candidates for the polls.

He said they will be looking to field a mix of experienced and new faces, focusing on young candidates.

"We believe that young candidates can bring about renewal and new ideas," he said.

Musa said that Umno aims to win at least five seats in the PRN.

He said that the party is focusing on Malay-majority areas in Penang.

The Election Commission (EC) announced last Wednesday that the state polls in Penang, Kedah, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Kelantan, and Terengganu will be held simultaneously on Aug 12.
