Azalina suggests new form of act on 3R issues
KUALA LUMPUR - Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said has suggested that there should be a new form of act on 3R issues, namely race, religion, and royalty.
Azalina said that the current punitive act is not enough to deter people from provoking 3R issues, especially in conjunction with the upcoming state elections.
"Provoking 3R issues is a political strategy for state elections. Maybe doing such way shows them as a 'hero'," she said when met at Menara Dato' Onn today.
Azalina said that she has proposed a new form of act that would be more positive and encouraging.
"In other countries, the proposed act is in the form of punitive, where if anyone violates, they will be fined.
"In this way, it is easier to resolve or be convicted," she said.
Azalina said that the new act would need to be discussed and studied in the near future.
"Maybe this can be seen as a necessity for the next generation," she added.
The 3R issues have been a hot topic in Malaysia in recent years, with some politicians using them to stir up racial and religious tensions.
