Selangor govt spent RM23 million on subsidies for people to buy essentials at discount
SHAH ALAM - The Selangor government spent almost RM23 million in subsidies to those who bought essential goods at costs far below market rate.
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said that the initiative was implemented as proof that the state government is responsible and has a vision to help the people.
"This administration always prioritises the welfare and well-being of the people of Selangor," he wrote on Twitter, today.
Amirudin said the Ehsan Rahmah sale was introduced by the state government since 2018 and is known as Selangor Agro Market (SAM).
"SAM was created to help farmers sell agricultural waste.
"Then at the beginning of 2022, the state government introduced the Ehsan Intervention Programme which sells chicken, fish, vegetables and various basic kitchen items at cheaper prices," he said.
He said the initiative was later developed into the Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat (JER).
"(Through JER) the location and frequency of sales are increased throughout Selangor and ahead of the festival, the location and frequency of tours are doubled through the mega tour," he added.
Amirudin added that the state government implemented the Ehsan Rahmah Tour in collaboration with the Domestic Trade Ministry and Cost of Living this year.
"This tour was held together in order to cover more locations throughout Selangor," he said.
