Man arrested for torching wife to death, cops say

MANJUNG - A man was arrested to aid investigations after his wife was allegedly burned in an incident at Kampung Bharu, here on Monday.

Manjung district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamed Nordin Abdullah said the 33-year-old victim was confirmed dead today after receiving treatment at the Seri Manjung Hospital.

He said the police were informed in the incident the 28-year-old suspect had torched his wife at a home in the area.

"Investigations found the cause of the incident was due to the victim and her family accusing the suspect of taking drugs.

"The suspect was arrested a day after the incident at a restaurant in Lumut with some items seized," he said in a statement, today.

He said the suspect was under a seven-day detention order by the police until July 18 while investigations were conducted under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

"The autopsy of the victim would be done tomorrow to identify the cause of death," he said.
