State polls: Date to announce PH’s candidate has not been set – Saifuddin
PUTRAJAYA - Pakatan Harapan (PH) Secretary-General Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said that he has not received any instructions from coalition Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim regarding the date of announcement for PH candidates for the upcoming elections in six states.
He stated that his main task was to prepare documentation to be submitted to the Election Commission (EC).
"Usually, I will be informed," he said during a press conference at the Home Ministry on Wednesday.
However, he believed that the candidate announcement would be made soon.
"PH Chairman will announce it shortly before July 29," said Saifuddin.
During a press conference after chairing the Meeting of the Malaysian Unity Government Leadership Consultation Council at Menara Dato Onn WTC on Tuesday, Anwar, who is also the Prime Minister, jokingly mentioned that PH would announce their candidates one day earlier than Barisan Nasional (BN).
"If BN says July 21, I’m thinking of doing it on July 20," he said.
The Election Commission (EC) has set August 12 as the date for voting in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Pulau Pinang, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu.
Meanwhile, the date of candidate nomination and early voting are set on July 29 and August 8 respectively.
