SHAH ALAM - Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang is advised to repent and to stop spreading slander against DAP.

According to a report from a news portal, DAP vice chairman Nga Kor Ming said Hadi's tactic of using religious rhetoric would not succeed in discrediting the party ahead of the state election next month.

"I hope and pray that the Pas president will 'turn over a new leaf', because slandering is not something that Islam permits.

"Slandering after slandering will not help," he said during a press conference at the Local Government Development (KPKT) ministry on Tuesday.

He said this in response to Hadi's statement which alleged DAP intends to retain the meaning of Islam in the Federal Constitution based on the colonialists' interpretation, which upholds liberalism and freedoms espoused by the West.

On Monday, police confirmed they had initiated an investigation into Hadi over his statement that allegedly touched on race, royalty, and religion (3R).

Federal police Criminal Investigation Department deputy director Datuk Suresh Kumar G. Suppiah said the investigation was over Hadi's statement on a Facebook post that claimed DAP had a "Chinese agenda" and was out to continue the eradication of Malay and Bumiputera supremacy set in place by British colonialists.

Suresh Kumar said the investigation was conducted by the Classified Crime Investigation Unit, or D5, of the Bukit Aman CID under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

It was reported on Sunday that the police launched an investigation against DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng over a statement that allegedly touched on the 3Rs (Rulers, race, and religion) issue.

He added that the police had received several reports where Lim claimed that the green wave would destroy temples and deny religious rights in Penang.

Asked to comment on the investigation into the DAP chairman, Ng said the party handed over the matter to the police to investigate.

He said the party was confident that the Bagan member of parliament would cooperate with authorities.
