Najib conveys condolences over passing of ex-journalist Wan Noor Hayati
SHAH ALAM - Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has conveyed condolences over the passing of award winning journalist Wan Noor Hayati Wan Alias or better known as Wanti.
In a Facebook post, Najib said previously, Wanti and her friends had often lended him support.
"Al-Fatihah to Wan Noor Hayati Wan Alias, former Utusan Malaysia and Berita Harian journalist who passed away today.
"She and her friends had often gave me their support before this," he wrote in the post.
He also attached a photo of him and Wanti which was taken in 2020 in the post.
Earlier today, Wanti's brother Wan Mohd Faizal, 46, said his sister died due to heart failure after struggling with pneumonia.
She died at the Serdang Hospital at about 6.10pm today. She was 44.
Wan Mohd Faizal said Wanti will be buried at the Kampung Bintongan Muslim Cemetery in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan at around 11pm.
It is understood that Wanti had been admitted to the Putrajaya Hospital due to shortness of breath after she had been confirmed to be infected with Covid-19 in April.
Since then, her health began to deteriorate, believed to be due to the long terms effects of the disease and she frequented the hospitals in Serdang and Kajang.
Wanti also served with Media Variasi.
In 2013, she won the Kajai Award - the highest journalism award in the country - presented by the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI).
Wanti who is a single mother left behind a nine-year-old son.
