PETALING JAYA - A former national football team captain was charged in the Magistrate's Court here today for trespassing into a hotel room of a woman.

Ahmad Shahrul Azhar Sofian, 49, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read out before Magistrate Zhafran Rahim Hamzah.

The former Perak FA player was charged with trespassing into the 36-year-old woman's room at a hotel in Kelana Jaya here at 6pm last June 21.

The charge, under Section 448 of the Penal Code carries a maximum prison sentence of three years or a fine of up to RM5,000 or both, upon conviction.

He was allowed bail of RM2,000 with one surety and also ordered not to intimidate witnesses in the case.

The court set Sept 18 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Siti Maryam Jamilah Md Kamal prosecuted, while lawyer Datuk Suraj Singh represented the accused, who has a wife and seven children. - BERNAMA
