SEREMBAN - Despite the past 33 years of Pas rule in Kelantan, the Islamic party has not displayed cruelty towards non-Muslims, said Pas vice president Datuk Idris Ahmad.

Idris further said that if Pas had any intention to oppress followers of other religions, it would have already been evident in Kelantan.

"We have never shed a drop of Chinese blood, never stabbed an Indian, nor slaughtered a Siamese," he said.

He said even though there are only 10 per cent of non-Muslims living in the state, they live in peace and prosperity.

"You can come over there (Kelantan), there are three idols. Not only standing, even sleeping, but suddenly, you're making up stories. Even if we wanted to go violent, we'd rather hit the minorities in Kelantan, not in Penang, " he said, referring to Buddhist statues.

He said so while speaking at Negeri Sembilan Perikatan Nasional (PN) election machinery launching ceremony on Sunday.

Sinar on Sunday reported that DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng was being investigated for a statement that allegedly touching on racial sensitivity in an event in Penang last Friday.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department Forensics and Strategic Planning deputy director Datuk G Suresh Kumar said that his department had previously received several reports regarding the statement issued by Lim.

Earlier, a local news portal citing a Mandarin newspaper reported that Guan Eng warned Penang voters to stop the green wave from gaining a setting its foot in the state.

Lim allegedly claimed that it would lead to Buddhist temples being demolished and non-Muslims facing various restrictions.

However, Lim has denied issuing the statement and instead argued that his speech in Mandarin was distorted. He said he was referring to a Hindu temple demolished in Kedah.
