Unidentified body found bound to rock at river's mouth in Batu Kawan
SYAJARATULHUDA MOHAMAD ROSLIBATU KAWAN - An unidentified body was found floating in the sea near Bagan Bukit Tambun Jetty at 11.45am on Friday.
Seberang Perai Selatan district police chief Superintendent Ng Ah Thiam said that upon receiving the report, the police subsequently proceeded to the location to conduct further investigations.
Preliminary findings from the initial investigation revealed that the body's hands, legs, and neck were bound to a rock at the river's mouth.
"The examination of the body also revealed lacerations on the victim's abdomen, presumably inflicted by a sharp weapon.
"The victim was dressed in a red collared, short-sleeved shirt and black boxers.
"The identity of the victim remains unknown," he said in a statement today.
He said the body was sent to Sungai Bakap Hospital Forensic Department for an autopsy.
"Members of the public who have information related to this case or missing family members are requested to immediately come forward or get in touch with the senior investigating officer, Assistant Superintendent Mohd Hafiz Mohd Noor at 019-465 0777 or SPS Police hotline (04-5858222) or Penang Police Headquarters (04-2221522) or any nearby police station.
"The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," he said.
