DAP respects Islam's position in the Constitution - Loke
MOHAMAD AMREEL IMAN ABD MALEKSHAH ALAM - DAP reiterated its stance that it will continue to defend all basic matters in the Federal Constitution, including respecting Islam’s position as the country’s official religion.
Its Secretary-General Anthony Loke said the party would not question the legitimacy of the religion at the national level.
Hence, the Member of Parliament for Seremban said that stance at once denied the claim made by former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad that DAP was trying to change the position of Islam as stated in the Constitution.
“I am very disappointed by Tun (Dr Mahathir) ’s claim that DAP will threaten Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim regarding this matter.
“Has he forgotten that when he was Prime Minister from May 2018 until February 2020, he was supported by 42 DAP Members of Parliaments? “Has DAP ever withdrawn support from him or threatened his position?” he asked in a post on Facebook on Monday.
In the meantime, Loke added, DAP will not sow racism or enmity with other races.
“We will continue to serve the country and play a role in building a united society based on the principles of Rukun Negara,” he added.
