Road users can claim vehicle damage compensation due to poor road conditions

KOTA KINABALU - Road users can claim vehicle damage compensation from the Public Works Department (JKR) due to poor road conditions in the state.

However, Sabah Works Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya said that the claims can only be made through the due process in court.

"This is a 'case to case basis', so they can.

"They have to make a report with sufficient evidence and go through the process in court," he told reporters after launching the Works Ministry's integrity week on Monday.

He said so in regards to road users in the state being able to claim compensation from JKR for vehicle damage due to poor roads.

Previously, complaints were circulating on social media on road users having to deal with damages to their vehicles due to holes and the poor conditions of roads in the state.

Meanwhile, in regards to a RM320 million allocation to solve the water supply issue in Sabah, the Sabah Deputy Chief Minister said that the technical committee had held a meeting to refine the procedure for the fund distribution.

"The money has not been distributed. A technical committee had met twice to refine the distribution procedure and so on.

"However, at the state level, we continue to carry out efforts to stabilise the water supply and I think it has already started to be experienced by some residents around Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Putatan," he said.

Commenting further on the Telibong Water Treatment Plant (LRA) 2, he said that the project was in progress and that the decision for the pipe installation has almost concluded.

"We hope that the physical works will be able to be carried out this year," he said.
