SHAH ALAM - The use of body cameras on personnel and officers of the Immigration Department needs to be implemented immediately to strengthen the integrity of the enforcement team.

The Malaysia Corruption Watch (MCW) said with the use of this technology, it could also help in collecting evidences in the event of any unwanted incidents.

He said allegations of leaks and corrupt practices involving the agency were considered a serious matter that needed to be dealt with immediately to prevent them from escalating further.

"Improvement on the immigration system and surveillance processes are needed. This process needs to be simplified in a way that it does not affect peace and sovereignty of the country.

"A much more effective monitoring and surveillance system need to be developed to monitor immigration activities and track down individuals involved in illegal activities.

"The safety and the integrity of the immigration are things that could not be compromised. Firm and thoroughly planned measures need to be taken to overcome the excessive number of foreigners and undocumented immigrants as well as to eliminate corruption in the department for the sake of the country's peace and sovereignty," it said in a statement today.

On Thursday, a commotion broke out at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) when an individual believed to be a minister allegedly barged into the international arrival hall to ‘rescue’ a detained Chinese tourist.

According to a source, the tourist was detained as soon as he entered the country.
