KEPALA BATAS - A senior citizen suffering from memory loss was spotted driving against traffic from the Sungai Dua Toll Plaza to Kilometre (KM) 126.3 of the North-South Highway (southbound) here on Wednesday.

Seberang Perai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Asri Shafie said police received a report at 7.43am before the Bukit Aman Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (JSPT) North Zone highway patrol personnel went to track down the vehicle.

He said the 84-year-old driver was arrested and brought to the Seberang Perai Utara district police headquarters for further action.

"Investigations found that the man drove from his home and wanted to head to a restaurant near his house.

"However, the driver got lost on the way and entered the highway and did not find the road to make a u-turn at the toll plaza and continued to drive against traffic," he said in a statement, today.

He said an interview with the driver's family members found that the senior citizen had shown signs of memory loss recently.

He added that the man's driver's licence had expired.

"Further investigation is being carried out under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.
