Elderly man dies while fixing mother’s roof

SEGAMAT - A man was found dead on the roof of a house in Kawasan Pekan Jabi on Thursday.

Segamat district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Zamry Marinsah said the 60-year-old man was believed to have died while he tried to repair the roof of the house owned by his mother.

“Based on the information received, police confirmed the discovery of the body on the roof of a house in Jalan Buloh Kasap, Kawasan Pekan Jabi, yesterday (Thursday).

“The man, who was believed to be repairing the roof of his mother’s house, collapsed and was pronounced dead.

“The body of the man was then sent to the Forensic Department of the Segamat District Hospital for autopsy.

“The case is classified as sudden death,” he said.

Meanwhile, Segamat Fire and Rescue station Operations Commander Senior Fire Officer II Kenny Ismol Mohd Nor Rahman said they received a distress call on the incident at 12.38pm on Thursday.

Upon receiving the call, one FRT machine and one EMRS machine with a strength of six members from Bandar Baru Segamat fire station were sent to the scene.

“When the team arrived at the scene, they found an unconscious man on the roof of the house.

“The team brought the victim down using ladders and stretchers.

“However, the victim was pronounced dead by the Malaysian Ministry of Health (KKM) personnel at the scene.

“The victim was handed over to the police for further action and the operation ended around 1.30pm,” he said.
