'I am Syed Saddiq, not anyone’s puppet'
SHAH ALAM – Muar MP Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman rubbishes claims he is a ‘puppet’ of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
He said that his call for the cabinet line to declare their assets was for the good governance of the country’s new politics.
“I asked a simple question. After seven months in power, why hasn’t the cabinet declared their assets? “When you can’t answer simple questions, (now they) start diverting people’s attention with labels.
“I (am), Syed Saddiq. I answer to Allah and the people. Not anyone’s puppet,” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday.
On Wednesday, Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) asked the Unity Government to explain the absence of the asset declaration, which it claimed was no longer enforced.
Its president Syed Saddiq said the declaration of assets was a good way to prevent irregularities among ministers.
However, he received backlash from netizens, who alleged him of questioning the matter based on Dr Mahathir’s instruction.
Syed Saddiq said asset declaration had been a practice since 2018 and was even shared openly through the website of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
“Why stop the policy? What is there to hide?” he questioned.
