KUALA LUMPUR -Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA)'s decision to contest solo in the upcoming state election is a bold move.

Umno former information chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan said the party welcomes the move as it is time for Muda to take a stand and not be treated like a "second-class" party in the political arena.

He said this on the "Keluar Sekejap" podcast programme on Wednesday.

"I’m sure Muda and President Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman understand the risk of entering state elections as a third force; there is a possibility that he won’t win at all if he is a third force.

"But I am confident that after that he will continue on the same platform, and Malaysians can at least judge Muda’s courage to take that risk instead of taking the safer route by negotiating a seat," he said.

Syed Saddiq was reported as saying that the assumption that Muda is in a hurry as well as refusing to cooperate with the Unity Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is baseless.

He claimed that his party had previously sent three requests to hold a meeting with Pakatan Harapan (PH), but they did not revert back to them.

On Monday, Syed Saddiq decided that his party would go solo in the state election this time, thereby opening a paradigm shift in the current national political climate. - AWANI
