Farmer shoots tiger dead to save cattle
GERIK - A tiger was reported shot dead after the animal attacked a resident’s cattle in Dala here on Tuesday.
The incident happened at around 3am when the man, in his 50s, after hearing loud sounds coming from the cattle shed, which is located about 30 metres from his cabin.
It is understood that the man had brought along a rifle for security purposes to inspect the shed, was suprised to see a tiger pulling a live cow.
Sacred, the man instantly fired a shot at the animal which died at the scene.
The matter was then reported to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan), which was patrolling the area involved.
Perhilitan had earlier installed tiger traps in the area last week after receiving reports that livestock in the area were being killed by tigers.
Meanwhile, Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, when contacted, confirmed receiving the report, and the case was handed over to Perhilitan for further action.
It is understood that a media statement regarding the incident will be issued by Perhilitan soon.
