DAP has no policy to prevent candidates from contesting two seats
MOHD ISKANDAR OTHMANGEORGETOWN - DAP has no policy to stop any candidates from contesting two seats in any elections.
However, Penang DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeo said the rule depended on the respective states.
“There has been no fixed policy regarding this matter.
“There are certain states that allow candidates to contest two seats.
“It is subject to the situation of each state while the state authority can make recommendations and suggestions on the matter,” he said in a press conference at his office in the Tun Abdul Razak Complex (Komtar) here on Wednesday.
In the 14th General Election (GE14) Chow contested for the Padang Kota state seat and Tanjong Parliamentary seat.
Aside from Chow, DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng also contested in the Air Putih state seat and Bagan Parliamentary seat.
When asked about Muda’s decision to contest in six states for the upcoming state elections, Chow said this should be overcome by those at a central level who oversee all matters, including cooperation with other parties.
“Personally, I think it is better to fight one-on-one in the state elections.
“The previous GE showed that multi-corner clash would only cause several candidates to lose their deposits,” he said.
