SEPANG - Muda's decision to contest independently in the upcoming state elections in six states is seen as futile unless it contributes to forming a government.

Chairman of Malay Proclamation Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, sarcastically remarked that placing candidates in a few seats in the State Legislative Assembly does not change the decision-making process for government formation.

"If Muda chooses to go solo and competes in only a few seats, what can they achieve with such limited representation?

"Our intention is to compete for the government. If they field enough candidates and win, then they can form the government," he said during a press conference today.

Earlier, Muda President Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman expressed disappointment that the party's intention to collaborate with Pakatan Harapan (PH) needed to be acknowledged and was instead undermined.

The Muar MP announced that Muda would contest independently with its own strength in the upcoming state election.

On a separate matter, Dr Mahathir revealed his plan to meet with Perikatan Nasional (PN) Chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in the near future to discuss the Malay Proclamation.

"I will meet with him (Muhyiddin) to clarify that the Malay Proclamation does not endorse any individual but supports the Malays as a whole," he added.
