Malaysia Airlines allows device use throughout flights starting July 1
SHAH ALAM - The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has granted regulatory approval to Malaysia Aviation Group's (MAG) airlines, including Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, and MASwings, to offer Gate-to-Gate connectivity for passengers.
This makes them the first airline in Malaysia to provide this feature, allowing passengers to stay connected to their personal and portable electronic devices (PEDs) throughout their flight, starting from July 1.
Previously, passengers were required to turn off their PEDs during takeoff and landing due to regulatory and aircraft regulations.
However, with the 'flight mode' enabled, passengers can now keep their PEDs on from the moment they board the aircraft until they arrive at their destination airport.
This approval also brings additional benefits for passengers.
Malaysia Airlines will provide complimentary Wi-Fi to all Business Suite and Business Class customers, as well as Enrich Platinum members, regardless of their class of travel, from July 1 to December 31, 2023.
This service will be available on 20 Wi-Fi-equipped planes, offering a data ceiling of 100 MB per sector and a speed of up to 512 kbps, ensuring passengers can stay connected and productive during their journey.
Passengers can also continue to enjoy the convenience of the airline's pay-per-use Wi-Fi service (MHconnect) and wireless in-flight entertainment (MHstudio) on their PEDs indefinitely.
MAG Chief Executive Officer Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi expressed their commitment to delivering exceptional customer service and innovative travel experiences.
"The gate-to-gate connectivity allows passengers to stay connected throughout their journey, whether it's to update their loved ones or work during the flight.
"MAG will continue to expand the number of Wi-Fi-equipped aircraft as part of their connectivity strategy, aiming to enhance the in-flight experience for all passengers.
"We will continue to invest in innovative technologies and services to meet the changing needs and provide comfort to our passengers as guests to our ‘home’," he said.
