Dr Mahathir won't be contesting in state polls
SEPANG - Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has announced that he will not participate in upcoming elections.
The former prime minister stated that his current focus is on the Malay Proclamation movement and safeguarding the rights of the Malay race.
"If Malays think that our struggle is solely aimed at becoming prime minister, that is not true.
"I have no intention to contest in any elections, but I hope there are others who will step up and demonstrate their love for the nation, reject corruption, and not sell their votes for monetary gain. Don’t sell your votes just because you received RM100," he told a special press conference on Wednesday.
The former Langkawi MP said Malays must realise that each vote in any election may decide the fate of the race.
"This is the struggle of the Malay Proclamation group. Insya-Allah, if we gain some support, we will place enough candidates to make a government.
"Further details regarding the Malay Proclamation will be provided to raise Malays' awareness that we are on the brink of losing our country in the present and future," he added.
He urged all Malays to understand that while the nation can share with others, excessive sharing may lead to the country's destruction, allowing it to be dominated by others, which is unacceptable.
