GOPENG - Heavy rainfall on Tuesday triggered a landslide along the Jalan Simpang Pulai-Blue Valley leading to Cameron Highlands, disrupting both directions.

Perak's Executive Councillor for Infrastructure, Energy, Water, and Public Transportation, Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, confirmed that there had been no reports of damage or injuries to road users in the 11.25pm incident.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the landslide was caused by a significant amount of surface water, resulting in soil collapse onto the road.

"The landslide has made the road impassable for vehicles.

"The Public Works Department (PWD) has informed us that repairs are underway for the affected slope," Mohammad Nizar said in a statement earlier today.

He also added that cleanup operations have already commenced at the site.

"At approximately 1.34am this morning, one lane was cleared and reopened for vehicle passage," he added.
