Electric buses to strengthen green campus concept, says Nik Nazmi
SHAH ALAM - Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change Minister, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad believes that university management can use electric buses as an alternative to strengthen the concept of green campus.
He stated that although the proposal may be challenging to implement, it can reduce students' dependence on buses that run on fuel and fossil fuels.
"In general, to reduce buses on campus, there must be alternatives. My view is that I know this may be seen as thinking outside the box and difficult, but if universities can obtain some electric buses in Kuala Lumpur, for example, from Rapid KL and others that supply such vehicles.
"So, there won't be a question of carbon emissions and such on campus," he said during a Q&A session at the Rakyat's Town Hall Programme held at the Karangkraf Group Complex on Monday.
He made these comments in response to a question about suggestions for universities to promote the concept of a green campus by reducing the use of buses that run on fuel.
Nik Nazmi also pointed out one of the Transport Ministry's efforts in promoting the use of micro-mobility vehicles in the country, which can complement public transportation systems.
"These existing micro-mobility vehicles can be used by students and the public, which can further reduce our dependence on buses that run on fossil fuels," he added.
