SHAH ALAM - The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) is predicted to have no chance of winning even a single seat if they were to contest solo, without alliance with any coalition.

Political observers were of the opinion that the party led by Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman would not only be defeated but would lose all deposits in all seats contested in the state polls as it has fewer devout supporters compared to other major political parties.

Institut Kajian Etnik (KITA) Professor Datuk Dr. Shamsul Amri Baharuddin said Muda should 'test the waters' first before deciding to go solo or not in the upcoming elections.

"The party, however, should select seats with big 'Undi18' presentations in all six states by well-qualified and good orators.

"Muda must have professional candidates in Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu, in addition to PAS candidates.

"It should field good young non-Malay attorneys and professionals in non-Malay-dominated seats in Penang, Negeri Sembilan, and Selangor," Shamsul said.

He said that whether they win or lose, Muda must demonstrate that they are a smart and committed party.

Meanwhile, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Political Science Professor Datuk Dr Jayum Anak Jawan opined that Syed Saddiq is misguided and inexperienced in politics.
