Female singer alleges molestation while taking selfie
SYAMILA ZULKIFLINILAI - A female singer has come forward with a claim of being molested while posing for a photo with a man after her performance at Dataran Nilai on Sunday.
The incident occurred at 11:05pm when the 26-year-old victim was in a designated special guest room backstage.
Nilai district police chief Superitendent Abdul Malek Hasim, said that the suspect approached the victim and requested permission to take a selfie with her.
"After receiving permission, the suspect took the selfie but then grabbed and kissed the victim's hand," he said.
Taken aback by this unexpected action, the victim screamed, prompting the suspect to flee the scene.
Fortunately, the event organiser managed to apprehend the suspect and subsequently handed him over to the on-duty police personnel at the festival.
Authorities have initiated an investigation under Section 354 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of up to 10 years and whipping and a fine, or any two of the said punishments, upon conviction.
"The suspect, a local man, has been remanded for three days, starting from Monday until Friday, to facilitate the investigation," Abdul Malek confirmed.
