KLANG - Kota Raja Umno division chief, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, remains tight-lipped about rumors of his potential candidacy for the Sungai Kandis State Assembly constituency in the Selangor State Elections.

The former minister said he is uncertain if his name will be nominated for the upcoming polls.

"I do not know and did not inquire about where I will be contesting.

"Whether I will be contesting or not, I will accept it and leave it to the top leadership to decide," he commented in response to claims of his candidacy for the Sungai Kandis State Assembly constituency.

He also pointed out that his attendance at the campaign event on Sunday night was in the capacity of supporting the unity government's machinery.

"I came here to assist, and even if I were to contest, I need to ensure the three State Assembly constituencies under the Kota Raja Parliament are defended.

"I am also here to support and ensure that the Umno machinery can work together with PH (Pakatan Harapan) to face the state polls," he said.

Tengku Zafrul, who arrived at the location at 8:30m, did not stay until the end of the event as he left early to celebrate his birthday with his family.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari was present at the event.

Meanwhile, when asked about the claims that Sungai Kandis would be given to Umno, Amirudin noted that the matter has not been confirmed yet as it is still under negotiation.

Regarding the speculation about Tengku Zafrul's appointment to the State Assembly, Amirudin mentioned that it is an internal matter for Umno and needs to be confirmed by the party itself.

"That is up to Umno. I cannot represent Tengku Zafrul, let alone the Umno President.

"The status of this seat cannot be disclosed yet and can only be decided after Aidiladha," he said.
