KOTA BHARU - Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang denied that the party is 'riding' on Islam to gain support from the people as suggested by their opponent.

Abdul Hadi stressed that Pas is not focusing on religious sentiments, but rather carrying out religious obligation.

"Politics is part of religion and it is among the duties of Muslims.

"There are some who said that Pas always bring this notion to not vote for a party because it is not Islamic. They were the one who said it, not us... who decides who go to Heaven or Hell is God. We are doing our duties for god's sake," he said.

Hadi was speaking at a press conference after delivering a ceramah at the Let Us Defend Kelantan: Pas Is My Choice event and Perikatan Nasional (PN) election machinery launch at Dataran Warisan Stadium Sultan Muhammad IV on Saturday.

Also present was PN secretary general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin and Kelantan government leaders.

According to Hadi, opponent parties especially DAP play on Islamophobia to scare people off from Islam.

He insisted that the community need not to be afraid of an Islamic administration because none of the negative notions are true.

The Marang Member of Parliament said that DAP can come over to Kelantan and see how the Islamic government in the state is.

"Non-Muslims can live in peace here as well as in Terengganu and Kedah. So they (DAP) are using this Green Wave term to scare the masses off. That must be Islamophobia... it's not true.

"Same goes to Amanah which claimed that we are a deviated party. Open up the Pas and Amanah constitutions. Look at each party's constitution.

"Pas constitution's highest law consists of the Quran and Hadith, the consensus of scholars and Qias. What is Amanah's constitution? What is DAP's constitution? Go study the constitution of each party... you'll know whether it's deviated or not," he said.
