'PM's wife' vehicle plate not Wan Azizah's request

KOTA KINABALU - A viral picture across social media depicting a licence plate with the words 'isteri YAB Perdana Menteri' ( The Prime Minister's wife) was not at Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ali's request.

According to the state's government secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong it is a normal practice for the state government to provide vehicles with these specific license plates during a VIP's work and official visits to Sabah

"I am aware that today, a photo of the Prime Minister's wife's licence plate taken at a prominent hotel in Kota Kinabalu has gone viral on social media.

"It has been the practice of the Sabah government to provide vehicles for the Prime Minister and his wife, and for Deputy Prime Ministers and their wives as well as VIP guests in Sabah during work and official visits," he said on Sunday.

According to him, the vehicle provided includes a plate with the guests' designation.

"The Sabah government provides vehicles according to their schedule in Kota Kinabalu.

"The viral plate was not at Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah's request," he said.

Previously, a video and photo went viral on social media capturing the Prime Minister's wife's license plate and there were claims suggesting that Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor was attempting to flatter the Prime Minister.
