ALOR SETAR - Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) secretary general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail is not rejecting the possibility of the Unity government coalition defeating Kedah Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor in the state election.

Saifuddin said he considered the Kedah Menteri Besar’s character not part of the tarbiah (ideal) based on Quranic tarbiah.

He said he is optimistic about the capabilities of the Unity government to beat Sanusi in the upcoming polls because of the attitude shown by the Pas leader.

"Leaders come and go. It’s okay; we can accept it. We want a leader who has a clear vision, has decency, cares for the people, and doesn’t choose to be popular without solving the issues.

"In Pas’s journey since 1951, many different leaders have come and gone. Some remained respectable until now," he said in a press conference after launching the Kedah Keadilan Election Machinery on Saturday.

He said among those figures were the late Datuk Fadzil Noor, the late Tan Sri Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, the late Datuk Dr Haron Din, and the late Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak.

"We are different, but we took care of our manners and modesty, but this character I see is not part of the Pas tarbiah, spiritual tarbiah, rabbaniyah tarbiah, (and) ruhiyah tarbiah.

"The fact that I don’t see it is a product of the Pas tarbiah series based on the Quranic tarbiah," he said.

He viewed leaders produced from this Pas tarbiah series as usually knowing when it was appropriate to express differing views and choose better words.

"I don’t think he is an original product of Pas, and I’m not rejecting the possibility of defeating Sanusi," he said.
