ALOR SETAR - DAP hopes that the party would be given more seats to contest in the states polls ought to be held in six states soon.

DAP vice-chairman Nga Kor Ming said if a candidate from DAP is believed to have a better chance of winning a seat, then it needs to be considered.

He said even though there is a request from the state level to increase the seat quota, the party is bound to the party's central leadership, which is now under the Unity Government.

"If it is possible, then we will appeal to the central leadership to give more seats in cases where DAP candidates have a better chance at winning.

"However, we are bound by the decision of the central leadership; hopefully it is possible (to get more quota)," he said in a press conference after a work visit at Pasar Teluk Wanjah today.

Asked if this was relayed to Pakatan Harapan's (PH) top leadership, the Local Government Development Minister said all proposals related to state polls have been discussed and are now entering their final stage.

"All the proposals have already been submitted. We have entered the final stage; there is just a little bit more left to discuss; there is no problem," he said.

When asked about the relevancy of increasing the DAP candidate quota in Kedah, where there are currently only two candidates contesting in Derga and Kota Darul Aman since the last few elections, Nga asked all parties to be patient until the candidate nomination day.

"Wait for the announcement after the dissolution of the state assembly; 'durian akan runtuh' (there might be an unexpected announcement)," he said metaphorically.

In the meantime, Nga hoped that voters would vote wisely in this state election based on the performance of the Unity Government.

"Our country has just recovered from a political turmoil whereby the prime minister post was changed four times in just one term. "I'm sure the people wouldn't want the same situation to be repeated. Because this will result in investors not being interested in investing and developing the economy. This will cause people to suffer.

"I beg voters, including those in Kedah, to maintain PH (as the federal government) for political stability so that investors will be more confident in continuing their investment," he explained.

Nga also shared the country's achievements under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim so that the people could make smarter judgements.

Yesterday, the IMD World Ranking announced that Malaysia had beat South Korea for the first time in the aspect of world competitiveness ranking.

"Malaysia jumped from 32nd to 27th place, leaving South Korea behind. That's why I said the leadership with integrity under the Prime Minister is beginning to bear fruit.

"The Department of Statistics Malaysia has announced that the country's inflation has dropped to 2.8 per cent and is among the lowest values reached in 30 months. This means our country is on the right track now; it will just take some time," he said.

Moreover, he stressed that the Unity Government respects the practise of democracy and always listens to the voice of the people.

"The Malaysia Madani Government does not play with racial sentiments or practise narrow-minded religious belief. Our focus is only to fulfil the trust given and keep working for the people," he explained.
