KOTA BHARU - A total of 135 Komuniti Madani have been established in Kelantan involving 45 state constituencies as a government effort to strengthen unity among the people.

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the establishment of Komuniti Madani (Madani Communities) involving various races and ethnicities including Malays, Chinese, Indians, Siamese and Orang Asli was aimed at helping the dissemination of government information, digitalise communities and foster the spirit of unity, patriotism and nationhood.

He said it is also in line with the government's sincere desire to bring Malaysia to a higher level of progress, balanced economically and socially to be enjoyed more fairly and comprehensively by all the people.

"So far, a total of 1,878 Komuniti Madani have been established across the country and today is the pre-launch of part of that number, 135 of which are in the state of Kelantan involving 45 state constituencies.

"We hope that with the existence of Komuniti Madani, the people will help the government to identify the issues they are facing, for example issues involving food supply or the like, in addition to obtaining confirmation at the grassroots level in the event of something going viral (on social media)," he said.

He said this at a press conference after attending the Kelantan-level Komuniti Madani pre-launch programme at Dewan Wawa, Jalan Kelonchor, here today, which was also attended by the Communications and Digital Ministry KKD) secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa.

Information Department Director-General Datuk Mohd Sukari Ab Hamid and Bernama Chief Executive Officer Roslan Ariffin were also present.

Earlier, Fahmi had also presented the Prepaid Unity Package to school students which is one of KKD’s initiatives.

Commenting further, Fahmi said the government strongly encourages people in Komuniti Madani to raise the spirit of volunteering to help foster a more informed community in delivering authentic, transparent and useful information.

"Society today is exposed to various situations where sensitive messages that can threaten harmony are spread through social media. Therefore, it is important for Komuniti Madani to verify and channel authentic information to the local community.

"It is my hope that the government's efforts will continue to be supported by Komuniti Madani to intensify and foster the spirit of solidarity, unity and well-being among the people," he said. - BERNAMA
