SHAH ALAM - The High Court's decision, which ordered former PKR vice president Zuraida Kamaruddin to pay RM10 million in damages for breaching the party bond, is right and has to be made a lesson.

University Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA)'s Department of International Relations Senior Lecturer Dr Hussain Yusri Zawawi said every politician in the country has to understand and abide by the regulations set by the respective party.

He said an agreement that was set by the party is an important foundation for maintaining discipline, fostering people's trust, and achieving political goals that have been set together.

"As a politician, it is their responsibility to comply with all conditions and rules that have been set by the party.

"Compliance with all the conditions of the party is important in ensuring integrity, discipline, and trust in a political party, as well as upholding the values of democracy and justice.

"So, the court decision will be a great lesson to all politicians to stay loyal to the party they are in," he told Sinar Harian.

Further, Hussain Yusri said the action taken against Zuraida has to be understood because politicians who don't follow party rules will suffer the consequences.

"This would indirectly teach representatives elected by the people to respect the principles and values of the political party that they are joining and carry out their duties with integrity, trust, and accountability," he added.
