SHAH ALAM - Wanita Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has hailed the High Court's decision to grant PKR the right to seek RM10 million in compensation from its former MP for breaching the party bond.

The ruling is seen as a clear message for the party to safeguard the trust bestowed upon them by the people.

Its chief Fadhlina Sidek, said that the practice of party-hopping for personal gain must end.

"The act of betrayal and disruption of democracy has led the country into political and economic instability, and the actual cost of damages far exceeds RM10 million in principle.

"We must protect the democratic system in parliament under all circumstances," she said in a statement today.

The Kuala Lumpur High Court ruled today that former PKR vice-president Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin is obligated to compensate the party with RM10 million for violating the terms of the party bond.

According to PKR, Zuraida had agreed to pay the party within seven days in the event of certain occurrences after winning the election using the party's ticket, such as leaving the party, joining another party, or becoming an independent representative.

PKR claimed that on or around February 24, 2020, Zuraida, along with 10 other PKR MPs, issued a joint statement announcing their departure from the party, while she chose to remain as the Ampang MP, a seat she had won under the PKR ticket, and subsequently formed a new bloc known as Perikatn Nasional.
