‘Terengganu will be second Kelantan if BN loses’ – Ahmad Said
NORHASPIDA YATIM
MARANG - Terengganu Umno chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Said claimed that Terengganu will become the second Kelantan if BN loses in the state election this time.
He said that the comparison mainly depicted aspects of development that he claimed not developed by Pas throughout its administration, which led to no economic gain for the people in the state.
“It means that there is no development, nothing... Kelantan people are fine (as they) can find jobs in Kuala Lumpur.
“But in Terengganu, Terengganu people don’t leave as much. So, they would become victims,” he told reporters after delivering the ‘Ceramah Perdana Gelombang Biru 2.0’ following a launch of Terengganu BN state polls machinery at Dataran Seri Limbat on Thursday night.
Ahmad said that he expected 20 per cent of the votes from BN voters given to Pas in the 15th General Election (GE15) last November to be returned to the party.
He believed that it was essential to ensure that all development plans by BN previously could be resumed and implemented in Terengganu.
“Recently, the people have voted and given Pas an 8-0 win (in GE15). What benefit did the people get? “There is no minister from Terengganu, no deputy minister from Terengganu, no provision for Terengganu Members of Parliament (MP). Who loses? The people do. No development allocation is channeled. The Menteri Besar even went to see the PM (Prime Minister) just to pay their salary.
“Even when it was about to flood, the central government gave (aid). That is why the state and the central government must be aligned.
“If they were different, there would be problems in terms of allocations and so on. They are ducks, we are chickens. It can’t be that way. Ducks with ducks, chickens with chickens would only do,” said the former Terengganu Menteri Besar.
In the meantime, Ahmad also expressed his hope that Terengganu would not face the problems Kelantan experienced, especially the water supply issue, which was described as endless.
“Kelantan have had yellow water for decades... For 30 years, it has not been resolved and the people of Kelantan don’t mind it.
“External votes from Kelantanese who returned home had all voted for Pas. Many BN people (in Terengganu) voted for Pas because they received money.
“For example, channel one, channel two which were for 60-year-olds, 50 and older, 80 per cent voted for Pas. We hope Umno voters are aware of this... don’t be fooled,” he said.
Terengganu along with five other states namely Kelantan, Selangor, Penang, Kedah and Negeri Sembilan will face an election soon after each state decided not to dissolve their state assembly in the last GE15.
So far, only Terengganu has not finalised the state assembly dissolution date while Kelantan state assembly was dissolved on June 22, Selangor (June 23), Penang (June 28), Kedah (June 28) and Negeri Sembilan (June 30).
